The United States Department of Defense has reportedly presented a range of tough military options to former U.S. President Donald Trump concerning Iran, including measures targeting the country’s top leadership. According to a report by Axios, the options were prepared in response to concerns over Iran’s nuclear program and the possibility that Tehran may refuse to comply with Washington’s strict conditions for a complete halt to nuclear activities.
The report claims that among the scenarios discussed are plans involving direct action against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his potential successor, Mojtaba Khamenei. While no final decision has been announced, the existence of such options highlights the seriousness of the escalating standoff. A senior adviser was quoted as saying that the Pentagon has prepared contingency plans for multiple possible outcomes.
Amid heightened tensions, the U.S. has significantly reinforced its military presence in the Middle East. Officials reportedly indicated that Washington could consider allowing Iran limited uranium enrichment, provided there is no pathway toward developing a nuclear weapon. However, U.S. authorities have stressed that any agreement must be clear, detailed, and verifiable. One senior official suggested that Trump would only support a deal he could present domestically as a strong political success.
Meanwhile, Israel and several Gulf states are said to view the risk of military confrontation as increasingly likely. Reports suggest that Israel has begun discussions with the United States regarding potential coordinated action, though no formal announcement of imminent strikes has been made.
On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran is preparing a written proposal expected to be submitted in the coming days. He emphasized that Iran is willing to provide technical assurances and political commitments to demonstrate that its nuclear program is intended solely for peaceful purposes.
U.S. officials have made it clear that the next move depends on Tehran’s response. Whether diplomacy prevails or tensions escalate further will largely hinge on the substance and credibility of Iran’s forthcoming proposal.
