New Zealand unleashed a flood of runs with the bat against Zimbabwe in the second and final Test of the series in Bulawayo. The Kiwis built a mountain of runs by scoring 150s with three batters against the hosts, who were all out for just 125 runs in the first innings. Through this, they set a rare world record in Test history after 39 years—three batters crossing 150s in an innings.
At the end of the second day, New Zealand had 601 runs for 3 wickets, which is 476 runs more than Zimbabwe's first innings. This lead is the second highest for the Kiwis against Zimbabwe in Test history. Earlier, they took a lead of 481 runs in an innings against Bangladesh in the Hamilton Test in 2019.
The batting festival was started by the two openers Devon Conway and Will Young. They added 162 runs to the opening partnership. Conway scored 153 runs off 245 balls, including 18 fours, while Young was dismissed for 74.
Rachin Ravindra and Henry Nicholls put on an unbroken partnership of 256 runs for the third wicket. Rachin played a brilliant innings of 165 runs off 139 balls, including 21 fours and 2 sixes. On the other hand, Nicholls is unbeaten on 150 runs off 245 balls, including 15 fours.
Only twice in Test history have three batsmen crossed 150 in an innings. The last time this rare feat was seen was almost four decades ago. This time, New Zealand, on their way to a series win against Zimbabwe, share the record.
