Times are not going well for English giant Manchester City. Everyone from fans to the team's coach is frustrated with one failure after another. However, the Citizens got some good news in the meantime. Erling Brut Haaland has renewed his long-term contract for almost ten years. The Norwegian forward will stay at City until 2034 for nearly 4,000 crore taka.
By signing this new contract on Friday, all of Haaland's previous release clauses have been canceled. Man City said in a statement on its own website that Haaland has extended his contract until the summer of 2034. According to the British media outlet 'The Sun', Haaland will pocket 260 million pounds in this new contract, which is equivalent to about 3859 crore taka in Bangladeshi currency. According to the previous contract, Haaland was supposed to play for the Citizens until the summer of 2027.
The 24-year-old forward has been earning around £400,000 per week, and some big bonuses have increased it to around £850,000. There have been rumours for some time that Haaland will join Spanish giants Real Madrid in the new transfer window. However, City have made it clear by signing his new contract that they want to keep Haaland with them in the future.
Regarding the contract renewal, Haaland said, ‘I am delighted to have signed a new contract. It feels good to be able to spend more time at this great club. Man City is a special club, full of great fans and great people. There is an atmosphere here that helps to bring out the best in everyone.’
In this regard, City’s current director Zikki Begristen said, ‘Everyone is delighted with Erling’s new contract. The new contract means proof of our commitment to him as a player and his love for the club. He has had an incredible impact here. The goals and the record speak for themselves.’
Haaland joined Man City from German club Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 for £51 million. He has scored 111 goals and provided 15 assists in 126 appearances for the Citizens so far. In the 2022-23 season, he helped the giants win the treble for the first time in the club’s history.
