Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP commented that despite the start of various market monitoring to keep commodity prices bearable after the fall of the dictatorial government, the prices of daily commodities including rice are still uncontrolled.
In a statement sent to the media on Sunday (August 18), the organization's chairman Jebel Rahman Gani and general secretary M. Golam Mostafa Bhuiya said this.
They said, instability is still going on in the rice market. While retail and wholesale traders blame each other for the price hike, market syndicates are still active behind the scenes. Therefore, the interim government should take swift action against market syndicates.
They also said that with the victory of the students in the anti-discrimination student movement, now is the right time to free the country from corruption and syndicates, especially by breaking the market syndicates and reforming the market management.
The leaders said that the government should take the fastest and strictest steps to break the market syndicate. Everyone including the government should be careful so that no one can take hidden charges including extortion. Everyone concerned with the government should remember that in the past the common people were a kind of hostages. Common people were becoming destitute day by day to the powerful market syndicates. The victory that came through the student uprising will have to reorganize market management to build a new Bangladesh in the future. It should be ensured that the daily necessities are within the purchasing power of the people.
They said that due to the unbridled increase in commodity prices during the previous government, the common people have become destitute at once. The month was passing somehow with the money that common people earned. There was no chance of saving. The fugitive former prime minister used to pretend not to see this. The cries of the poor did not reach his ears. Those who sit in the government should first organize the market management properly. So that illegal traders cannot hold anyone hostage. He cannot raise the price of goods as he pleases.
The leaders said that a strong market monitoring cell should be formed to control the market. Along with this, measures should be taken to ensure that the supply of daily necessities is uninterrupted. Where there are problems in the whole system, measures should be taken accordingly. Common people are always in fear. When is the price of a product deregulated? Big companies suddenly increase the prices of products as they please. As a result, the relationship between the retailers and the customers is about to be destroyed.
The leaders also said that the price of goods in the country has decreased quite a bit in the last few days. Mainly due to the cessation of extortion by the police and government party leaders, the price of goods has decreased. The fact that the price of goods in the country is not only dependent on demand, is proved once again from this incident. All should be alert to change the government and take the opportunity of time so that no evil force can take away the victory of the agitating students by taking over the markets and streets.
