Sarjis Alam warns of strict resistance if there are irregularities in vote counting

Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam has demanded that transparency be ensured at every stage of voting and counting in the upcoming local government elections. He also warned that strict political resistance will be mounted if there is any attempt to change the election results or exert administrative influence. Sarjis is currently serving as the NCP Northern Region Chief Organizer.

He said these things at a rally organized at the Rajshahi Central Shaheed Minar premises on Friday (July 10) night. Addressing the Election Commission and field administration officials, Sarjis said that any attempt to change the people's vote count will not be accepted in any way. We need to get out of the culture that has been accused of using state power and administrative structures to control elections in the past.

Sarjis Alam said that officials responsible for elections must remain impartial. If any party or candidate tries to influence the vote count, the people and the new generation will protest. He called on the local government to ensure that voters have the opportunity to vote freely and that accurate results are published to make the elections acceptable.

Criticizing BNP's politics, the NCP leader said that parties must come out of their dependence on old political systems and administrative influence. He also commented that if any part of the current state system takes a stand against the expectations of the people, the youth will not accept it.

At the rally, Sarjis Alam called for taking a stand for competence, honesty and change instead of party or family identity. According to him, to establish people-friendly leadership in local government, voters must be aware and political parties must also respect the decisions of the people.

The rally, chaired by NCP's Rajshahi Metropolitan City President and potential city mayor candidate Mobasher Ali, was attended by the party's joint convener and MP Atiq Mujahid, Sarwar Tushar, joint member secretary Saif Mustafiz, Rajshahi divisional organizing secretary Imran Emon and Jatiya Nari Shakti president Monira Sharmin, along with central and local leaders.

Earlier in the afternoon, NCP leaders and activists held a 'July march to build the nation' program from Alupatti intersection in Rajshahi city to the central Shaheed Minar. At the rally organized after the march, the party leaders spoke about local government elections, the impartiality of the administration and the future leadership of Rajshahi city.

NCP's program in favor of Mobasher Ali and Sarjis Alam's speech on vote counting in the face of the Rajshahi mayoral election have created new discussions in the local political arena.
