‘My role is more important than that of ministers in parliament’ - Taher claims

Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Central Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said that his role in parliament is more important than that of many ministers. He made this comment while addressing an Eid reunion and public reception organized in Chauddagram, Comilla.

Taher said that although he is not directly a minister, he enjoys the status of a state minister as a deputy leader of the opposition. According to him, due to his responsibility of leading the opposition in parliament, he gets the opportunity to speak regularly on important issues, whereas many ministers speak comparatively less.

Regarding the election results, he claimed that their political alliance received significant votes and they are close to the ruling party in terms of public support. According to him, the vote share is the true reflection of public opinion, not just the number of seats.

He also said that his political position could have been stronger if the elections were fair. At the same time, he commented that Jamaat-e-Islami is preparing itself as a party with the potential to come to power in the country in the future.

Questioning the stability of the BNP government, Taher said that only time will tell how long the current government will remain in power. However, he wants the government to complete its term, as this will create opportunities for various development projects and increase local allocations.

Talking about the law and order situation in Chauddagram, he mentioned juvenile gangs and drug trafficking as major problems in the area. Announcing a six-month deadline for those involved in these activities, he said that they should join legal professions within this period. Otherwise, they will have to face strict social and legal action.

Taher said that most of the people in the society are honest and peace-loving. If the people come forward together, it is possible to control juvenile gangs and drug trafficking. He called on the local people to play an active role in this regard.

In the presence of local leaders, activists and supporters at the event, he emphasized on joint initiatives to curb social crimes.
