A chase, cocktail explosion and vandalism took place in the Ishwardi Government College area of Pabna over the counter-programs of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir. At least 10 people from both sides were injured in this.
The incident took place around 11 am on Thursday (April 23).
According to police and local sources, the Ishwardi Government College Chhatra Dal held a protest rally on Wednesday to protest the attack on Chhatra Dal at Chittagong City College. In continuation of this, leaders and activists started gathering in the campus area since morning to carry out the pre-announced program on Thursday.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, the leaders and activists of Chhatra Shibir took out a procession and left for the city around 12:45 pm. At that time, when Chhatra Dal leaders and activists threw bricks and stones, the procession of Shibir dispersed and tension spread between the two sides. Later, a chase and counter-chase began.
Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and tried to control the situation. At that time, the leaders and activists of Chhatra Shibir displayed domestic weapons by exploding cocktails and vandalizing a Chhatra Dal office. Later, they protested in the Railgate area with sticks and wooden batons.
Amjad Hossain, principal of Ishwardi Government College, said that although both sides had sought permission for a procession on the campus, the clash took place outside the campus and no untoward incident took place inside the college.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asaduzzaman Asad said that additional police have been deployed in the area to control the situation. No written complaint has been received so far; legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
