Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has called on the people to rise up unitedly to protect the country's financial resources. He said that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will always stand by the people in their movement to achieve their just rights.
He said these things at a conference organized at Al Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar in the capital on Friday (April 17) morning.
The Jamaat Ameer alleged that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has cheated the people by taking the verdict of the people. However, he also mentioned that they have accepted the election results in the larger interest of the country and to maintain healthy political continuity.
He further claimed that the people's expectations and consciousness have been undermined through extensive 'engineering' in the national elections. He even commented that there were indications of electoral irregularities in the statements of a former advisor and a minister of the current government.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also alleged that the government is running the country in a fascist manner by amending the constitution. He said that the opportunity to express opposition views in parliament is being narrowed, as a result, political alliances are being forced to engage in movements in the public interest.
He warned that a new type of fascism could be more dangerous than in the past and that partyization in democratic institutions is becoming harmful to the country.
Regarding the role of the media, he said that there is no distortion in revealing the truth—“white should be presented as white.” He called for presenting the statement in its entirety, not distorted or partially.
Finally, he said that Jamaat-e-Islami will be active on issues related to the interests of the people in both parliament and the streets. “The people will have to rise up to protect the country’s financial resources, we will always stand by them,” he added.
