Jamaat meets US Assistant Secretary of State

A delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami met with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur, who is visiting Dhaka.
A five-member Jamaat delegation participated in the meeting held in the capital's Gulshan area on Thursday (March 5) morning. The delegation was led by the party's Nayeb Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher.
The meeting discussed the ongoing political situation in Bangladesh and the activities of the National Parliament. The US Assistant Secretary of State wanted to know in particular what the role of the government and the opposition parties will be in the National Parliament.
At that time, Jamaat informed that they will play an active and effective role in the Parliament. The delegation also said that issues related to the interests of the people will be strongly highlighted and the government will be supported with positive initiatives.
It is also known that the meeting discussed whether there will be a representative of Jamaat for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.
The Jamaat delegation also included MP Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Kasem (Arman), MP Saiful Alam Milon and former diplomat Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury.
Paul Kapoor is also scheduled to meet with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party at 11 am today. On the other hand, the meeting scheduled with the National Citizens Party (NCP) at 10 am has been postponed, it is learnt.
