Bir Protik–awardee freedom fighter Mohammad Didarul Alam has called on the public to vote for the “Scales” symbol in a video message that has recently gone viral on social media. In the video, he clearly expresses his support for politics based on justice, fairness, and good governance, sparking widespread discussion across online platforms.
In the viral video, Mohammad Didarul Alam is heard saying that he is not speaking in favor of any individual or power, but rather in support of ideals and conscience. He states that the values of justice and honesty that inspired the Liberation War of 1971 can be meaningfully reflected through the Scales symbol. His remarks also highlight concerns over the lack of morality in contemporary politics.
Mohammad Didarul Alam is a Bir Protik–decorated freedom fighter of Bangladesh’s Liberation War. He hails from Musapur village of Sandwip upazila in Chattogram district. In 1971, while serving in the Pakistan Army, he joined the Liberation War and took part in several frontline battles in Chandpur, Laksam, and Cumilla with notable bravery.
One of the most significant engagements under his leadership took place on 10 September 1971 in the Amratali–Krishnapur area of Cumilla. As the commander of the Motinagar sub-sector, he led a small group of freedom fighters against a much larger contingent of Pakistani troops, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. Despite limited weapons and manpower, the resistance is remembered as a remarkable chapter in the history of the Liberation War.
In recognition of his extraordinary courage and leadership during the Liberation War, the Government of Bangladesh awarded Mohammad Didarul Alam the Bir Protik gallantry medal. His statements in the viral video have once again drawn attention in political circles, with many describing his stance as courageous, principled, and deeply significant given his role in the country’s history.
