Law enforcement agencies have identified the location of shooter Faisal Karim Masud, the main accused in the assassination attempt on Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. Despite trying to exploit technological loopholes, it was finally possible to confirm his location in Maharashtra, India.
Sources involved in the investigation said that Faisal has changed his Bangladeshi SIM to an Indian 'Reliance Jio' SIM. Although he tried to show his location as Singapore or Thailand using VPN at various times, it was possible to identify his real location by tracking the IMEI number as he did not change the phone set. Currently, he is accompanied by a motorcyclist and close associate Alamgir Sheikh.
The investigation found that immediately after the attack, Faisal and Alamgir illegally fled to India through the Haluaghat border in Mymensingh. All of Faisal's bank accounts have been frozen to verify whether there was any major financing behind the attack. In addition, the CID's Financial Crime Unit has written to the Bangladesh Bank's BFIU in this regard.
RAB said that three firearms and a large amount of bullets used in the assassination attempt were recovered from a lake in Narsingdi. After the attack, the weapons were first kept at Faisal's sister's house in Agargaon, Dhaka, and later thrown into the lake water to destroy evidence. In addition, the CTTC was able to recover a motorcycle and helmet with fake number plates.
So far, the police have arrested a total of 10 people in the incident, including Faisal's parents, wife, and brother-in-law. Among them, Faisal's father Humayun Kabir and mother Hasi Begum have given confessional statements under Section 164 in the court.
DB police said that four of the arrested are currently on remand and others are being brought to justice.
It is worth mentioning that Sharif Osman Hadi was shot dead in the Box Culvert area of Purana Paltan in the capital after Friday prayers last Friday. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Singapore General Hospital in a critical condition.
