A protest march by Islamic Movement Bangladesh and Khilafat Majlis has been held from Baitul Mukarram area of the capital to the National Press Club. The two parties held this program on Monday as the fourth phase of their ongoing simultaneous movement. The procession was declared over through prayers and supplications at the end of the march.
Islamic Movement Bangladesh Secretary General Principal Maulana Yunus Ahmad said, "The country will not be given an opportunity to return to its previous state through elections of the old settlement. After the blood and sacrifice of July, no one will get the opportunity to establish fascism again. A referendum must be organized before the elections to give a legal basis to the July Charter. There is no level playing field in the country now. It must be ensured through the goodwill and behavior of the government. Where is the problem in giving a legal basis to the July Charter even after so much blood and sacrifice?"
At this time, Islamic Movement expressed solidarity with the protesting teachers. The party's joint secretaries general Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman and Maulana Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud declared solidarity with the teachers' movement and urged the government to quickly accept the teachers' just demands.
Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Khilafat Majlis Maulana Sakhawat Hossain said, "Although the interim government announced the July National Charter, it has not yet been able to create its legal basis and issue an order to implement it. The people gave the interim government the responsibility to try the fascists, carry out necessary reforms and hold fair elections. Therefore, elections or reforms have no value without the legal basis of the July Charter. We are demanding the immediate issuance of an order to implement the July Charter and to give it a strong legal basis through a referendum. We are also demanding elections in the upper house of parliament through the PR method, making the trial of fascists visible, suspending the political activities of fascist parties and their allies, and taking effective steps to appoint religious teachers in primary schools."
Present at the procession on behalf of the Islamic Movement were Dhaka Metropolitan North President and Joint Secretary General Principal Hafez Maulana Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud. Present on behalf of the Khilafat Majlis were Dhaka Metropolitan South President Professor Maulana Azizul Haque, Joint Secretary General Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Faisal, Professor Muhammad Abdul Jalil and Central Organizing Secretary Professor Kazi Minhajul Alam.
