BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia may soon visit London, UK. The first week of December is being heard as a possible time. Party sources have already informed that her London visa process has been completed.
According to BNP sources, Khaleda Zia will spend some time in London with her eldest son Tarique Rahman. From there, there are plans to take him to the United States for better treatment. However, the US visa has not been confirmed yet.
A member of the BNP Standing Committee said, “Madam’s London visa has been obtained. However, work is underway to confirm the US visa before she goes to London.”
BNP Chairperson’s office sources said that a 15-member delegation, including family members, personal doctors, nurses, assistants and some important party leaders, is likely to accompany her.
Khaleda Zia last visited the UK in July 2017 and returned to the country in October. She was then imprisoned in a corruption case in 2018. She was released on conditions in 2020, where she was banned from leaving the country.
However, after the new government came to power in August this year, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was ordered to be released. Since then, the process of taking her abroad for better treatment has begun.
The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia has invited her to perform Umrah on her way abroad for treatment. The Saudi ambassador to Dhaka has conveyed the invitation. According to BNP sources, Khaleda Zia is planning to go to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah after completing her treatment.
Doctors said that Begum Zia has been suffering from various complications including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney and heart disease for a long time. Although her physical condition is currently improving, it is very important to take her to a multidisciplinary medical center for treatment.
A BNP doctor said, “Begum Zia is in a good mental state and is preparing for treatment quickly.”
Khaleda Zia’s visit is considered important from both political and personal perspectives.
