Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit US for 10 days, address UN General Assembly in September

Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is visiting the US next September to attend the high-level session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81). According to the initial plan, he will arrive in New York on September 21 and the visit may last for about 8 to 10 days.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will address the UN General Assembly on behalf of Bangladesh. Besides, there is a possibility of participating in various international programs, diplomatic meetings and possible bilateral discussions. Preparations are also underway to give her a reception in New York on behalf of the Bangladeshi diaspora.
After completing the UN program, the Prime Minister will participate in a two-day event to be held in San Francisco, California. After that, she is likely to return to the country from there.
According to diplomatic circles, this year's UN session holds special importance for Bangladesh. Because Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman will serve as the president of the session. As a result, the presence of the head of government and the president of the session of Bangladesh at the same time is being considered a significant event in the international arena.
According to official sources, the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working to finalize the official schedule, meetings and other programs of the visit. However, the final schedule has not been released yet.
The Prime Minister's Press Secretary Saleh Shibli told the media that the Prime Minister will visit New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly. However, the detailed schedule of the visit has not been finalized yet and preparatory activities are underway in this regard.
According to party and diplomatic sources, the Prime Minister is likely to address the General Assembly session held at the UN Headquarters on September 24. In addition, there is a possibility of several important meetings with leaders of different countries of the world during the visit.
There has been great interest among Bangladeshis living in the United States regarding the Prime Minister's visit. In particular, the BNP and its affiliates in the United States are making various preparations for the visit. Initiatives have also been taken to organize a large-scale civic reception in New York, where leaders, activists and supporters from different states of the United States are likely to participate.
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman recently visited Malaysia and China after forming the government. During that visit, memorandums of understanding and agreements were signed on various issues including manpower, trade, corridor development. Sources concerned claim that there are currently no plans for any other foreign visits before attending the UN session.
