Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has explained the allegation of soil being removed from the base of the pillars of the Padma Railway Bridge. He said that the issue is not that soil was removed from under the pillars.
Responding to questions from journalists at the Secretariat on Tuesday (June 16), he said that some additional soil and barriers were placed during the construction of the bridge. Some soil has been removed from there as needed.
Earlier, a video of soil being removed from under the pillars of the Padma Railway Bridge in Fatulla, Narayanganj went viral on social media. After that, a discussion started on the issue.
The Bridges Minister said, “During the construction of the bridge, some infrastructure and soil were placed as part of the construction. It was not removed for a long time. Later, as it was high, some things were stolen using ladders. Therefore, the excess soil was removed in the overall consideration.”
He also said that plans have been made to plant trees at that place in the future.
