Newly appointed Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi is arriving in Dhaka today to assume charge in Bangladesh. In an interview given before assuming charge, he expressed his hope to further strengthen the relations between the people of Bangladesh and India.
He said that the relations between the two countries are not limited to geographical borders; rather, this relationship has a depth in the hopes and aspirations of the people, development and democratic values. He also commented that the relations will be further strengthened in the future through mutual respect, cooperation and sincerity.
Before assuming charge, Dinesh Trivedi visited the historic Netaji Bhavan in Kolkata. There, he said that the ideals and democratic values of the freedom struggle will inspire him to fulfill his new responsibility.
As per the decision of the Indian government, he was appointed as the High Commissioner to Bangladesh last April. He recently received the formal credentials from the President of India.
Dinesh Trivedi, who has a long experience in politics, has held various important positions in the central government of India. He also served as the country's former Railway Minister. After being active in the Congress, Janata Dal and Trinamool Congress in his political career, he joined the BJP in 2021.
This is the first time in the history of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and India that India has sent an active political figure to Dhaka as the High Commissioner. The matter is being viewed with special importance in diplomatic circles.
