Rapid Recruitment of 2,701 Constables to Strengthen Law Enforcement

Published: 04:12 23 February 2026
To bolster the country’s law and order situation, Salahuddin Ahmed, the Home Minister, announced that 2,701 constables will soon be recruited into the police force. He stated that the recruitment process has been directed to start immediately and that its implementation will become visible in a short period.
The announcement was made on Monday (February 23) at the ministry’s meeting hall in the Secretariat, following a discussion with heads of various departments. The minister emphasized that the government’s primary goal is to manage the law enforcement agencies in line with public expectations and to enhance their operational effectiveness at the field level.
The Home Minister also said that firearm licenses issued during previous governments will be re-examined. Authorities will verify whether proper procedures were followed during the issuance of these licenses. He added that it will also be reassessed whether the license holders were genuinely qualified to possess firearms.
He cautioned that licenses obtained for political purposes or through undue influence will be revoked, and any firearms held under such licenses will also be considered invalid. Additionally, a large number of firearms that have yet to be recovered are now classified as illegal. According to the minister, more than 10,000 firearms remain unaccounted for, posing a significant concern for public safety.
The minister confirmed that all recovery of illegal firearms will follow proper legal procedures, and cases will be filed where necessary. Through this initiative, the government aims to strengthen the police workforce while simultaneously controlling illegal weapons, which is expected to improve the overall law and order situation.
