The Election Commission (EC) has added a new symbol for use in the national elections of Bangladesh. ‘Shapla Kali’ has been added to the list of election symbols in the latest published notification. This information was given in a notification signed by Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat on Thursday.
According to the notification, ‘Shapla Kali’ has been added to the list at number 102. This brings the total number of registered symbols of the Election Commission to 119 so far.
The notification states that in accordance with Article 94 of the ‘Representation of the People Order, 1972’ (President’s Order No. 155 of 1972), the Election Commission has amended the ‘Election Conduct Rules, 2008’ by virtue of its powers.
Through this, “Shapla Kali” has been included as a new symbol, which can be used as an approved symbol in any future election, including the upcoming national election.
Some of the symbols currently on the EC's list include: rice sheaf, boat (suspended), hand fan, lion, mango, pitcher, bicycle, motorcycle, torch, football, sunflower, fish, cow, key, flower basket, electric bulb, truck, glasses, railway engine, and mobile phone.
According to EC sources, political parties can choose from these symbols according to their preference during registration. Unregistered candidates can also choose a symbol from the EC-approved list.
This updated list of election symbols has also been published on the Election Commission's website, where all 119 symbols are mentioned in detail.
