Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the National Interim Government, will be visiting London on June 9 for a four-day official visit. The main occasion of the visit is to receive the prestigious ‘King Charles Harmony Award’ from the hands of British King Charles III. The UK has accorded the status of an official visit to the country.
During the visit, Dr. Yunus will participate in a high-level bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which will be held at 10 Downing Street in London on June 11. The meeting will discuss important issues such as trade, investment, development partnerships and the recovery of laundered money.
As part of the visit, Dr. Yunus will pay a courtesy call on King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on June 12. Later that afternoon, he will be formally presented with the ‘King Charles Harmony Award’ at a ceremony at St. James’s Palace.
Also on June 11, Dr. Yunus will participate in a special dialogue organized by the influential UK-based think tank Chatham House. The dialogue is titled ‘Challenges and Opportunities for Bangladesh’s Future’. Here, he will discuss Bangladesh’s current political context, reform agenda and future directions.
The visit will also focus on the UK’s political and diplomatic support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition, reform agenda and preparations for the upcoming elections. In particular, the trial of human rights violations in the July-August uprising, and plans for future electoral processes and administrative reforms in light of this, will be at the center of the discussion.
