Iran and Pakistan have decided to work together to prevent Israel's aggression in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, an armed organization fighting for Palestinian independence. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced this unity in a meeting with Iran's supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. AFP reported this information, citing Iran's official news agency IRNA.
Last month, an attack targeting an Iranian "terrorist hideout" in Pakistan's Balochistan caused tension between the two countries. There were also warnings of severing diplomatic relations between the two sides. However, Iran has taken steps to repair relations with Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan conflict.
During his visit to Tehran, Shehbaz Sharif first met with the Iranian president. After the meeting, he said that Pakistan will fully support Iran's peaceful nuclear program and will take joint steps to combat terrorism on the Iran-Pakistan border.
The Pakistani prime minister also said that Islamabad will never allow its territory to be used against Tehran. On the other hand, the Iranian president reiterated the silence of the Western world against the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the unity of Pakistan and Iran on behalf of the Palestinian people.
Then, in a meeting with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is steadfast in its anti-Israel position within the Muslim world. He called the killing of 54,000 people in Gaza a "deep shame" for international humanity.
In response, Ayatollah Khamenei said that if Iran and Pakistan work together, it will be possible to take effective steps to stop Israel's crimes in Gaza. He called on Pakistan to work together for border security, anti-terrorism cooperation and economic integration.
The move is seen as a symbol of new unity in the Palestinian struggle for independence, which will be important in resisting Israeli military aggression.
