Dhaka, 10 February 2025: This evening, BNP will hold a meeting with the party's chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. The main topic of discussion in this meeting will be the government's position on the election.
BNP said that if the voter list work is completed by May, national elections can be held within this year and they will want to know the steps taken by the government in this regard. The party hopes to quickly complete the necessary reforms and other preparations for the election and urge the government to organize the election quickly.
According to BNP sources, in the meeting, the party leaders will present their position on the ongoing situation in the country and especially on the incidents of vandalism across the country, including Dhanmondi No. 32.
BNP officials said that if the government or the chief advisor do not respond positively in the meeting, they are planning to hold a program demanding early elections. They have already announced divisional rallies and district-by-district programs.
Meanwhile, the BNP held a meeting with the Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nazrul Islam Khan at the Election Building in Agargaon in the capital on Sunday. This meeting was the first meeting of the new Election Commission with the BNP.
Nazrul Islam Khan said, "The Election Commission does not have the power to set the election date, but from discussions with them, it seems that preparations for organizing the election will be completed by May-June."
The meeting is considered important for the BNP, as this is their first dialogue with the Election Commission after almost six years.
