Special Counsel to the International Crimes Tribunal Toby Cadman has expressed hope that in the interest of justice, India should send ousted Prime Minister and prime accused in the genocide case Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh. He told reporters after meeting the Chief Prosecutor on Monday.
In response to a question, Toby Cadman said, "A fair trial will be guaranteed here. Now it remains to be seen whether India will stand for injustice or will stand for justice."
He also said, "We hope that India will extradite her (Sheikh Hasina) to Bangladesh in accordance with international law. Sheikh Hasina will be able to fight her case through a lawyer."
At that time, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Mohammad Tajul Islam was present with him.
It is worth noting that Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5 and took refuge in India under pressure from the anti-discrimination movement. Immediately after this, a case was filed against him and a total of 45 people, including his family members and other Awami League leaders, at the International Crimes Tribunal on charges of 'genocide and crimes against humanity.' Based on this, an arrest warrant has also been issued by the tribunal.
