Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury has resigned. Today, Monday, President Md. Bangabhavan sources confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to Sahabuddin.
Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5, in the face of the student uprising. The President then dissolved Parliament. The interim government was sworn in on August 8.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury resigned 27 days after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government.
In the 2008 elections, Abdul Hamid was elected as the Speaker of the Awami League. When he was elected as the President, Shireen Sharmin was elected as Speaker on 30th April 2013. Since then he has been in this position continuously.
Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was elected Speaker again after the Awami League won the election without BNP on January 7 and formed the government.
760 people died in violence in the country from July 16 to August 5 and after the fall of the government. A case is being filed against Awami League leaders including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the shooting incident.
A case has also been filed against Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. A murder case was filed against Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, former commerce minister Tipu Munshi and 17 people after gold worker Muslim Uddin (38) was shot dead in Rangpur on August 27.
The case was filed in the Metropolitan Kotwali Amli Court by Dilruba Akhter (32), wife of deceased Muslim Uddin of East Ganeshpur area of Rangpur city. Tipu Munshi is in jail after being arrested in a murder case.
Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was elected from Rangpur-6 constituency and became a Member of Parliament.
