During pregnancy, a woman's body undergoes various physical and mental changes. Among these, insomnia or insomnia is a common problem. Experts say that sleep problems can negatively affect the health of the pregnant mother and the baby.
Why do sleep problems occur?
First 3 months: The progesterone hormone suddenly increases, increasing daytime sleepiness and nighttime sleep disruption. In addition, frequent urination, nausea, heartburn and mental anxiety are causes of sleep disruption.
Second 3 months: As the stomach gradually grows, it becomes difficult to find a comfortable position. Leg pain or cramps, slow digestion and nighttime heartburn cause sleep disruption.
Last 3 months: As the baby's weight and size increase, back, waist and leg pain, swollen feet, acid reflux and excessive baby movements disrupt nighttime sleep. Feeling excessively hot and worried about childbirth also increase mental stress.
