Gasoline import started from Russia, India due to fuel pressure due to Ukraine attack

Russia has started importing fuel from India to deal with the petrol crisis as the energy infrastructure has been damaged by the continuous attacks in Ukraine. According to industry sources, shipments of Indian petrol have been sent to Russia by sea.

The impact of the energy crisis is already visible in various regions of Russia. Supply at filling stations in some areas has been limited, creating long traffic jams and increasing gasoline prices. Moscow is trying to increase imports from alternative sources to control fuel supply and prices in the domestic market.

According to sources, at least 60,000 metric tonnes of petrol from India is on its way to Russia. It is said that 30 to 40 thousand tons of petrol were sent in two other tankers. However, it is not yet certain which Indian refinery is exporting this fuel.

Russia is planning to import petrol not only from India but also from other countries including Belarus. During the peak summer demand, the country requires around 100,000 tonnes of petrol per day. Hence, as local production is disrupted, dependence on imports is increasing.
