The US Air Force has carried out airstrikes on the Iranian islands of Goruk and Qeshm in the Persian Gulf. The US claims that the operation was carried out after the Iranian defense forces shot down a US MQ-1 Predator drone.
In a message published on the social media X on Monday (June 1), the US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed the attack.
Centcom said that an Iranian air defense system, a ground control station and two one-way attack drones on the islands of Goruk and Qeshm were destroyed in the operation. It is claimed that these installations were identified as potential military threats.
According to the US side, there were no casualties in the attack. However, significant damage was caused to the related military infrastructure.
According to analysts, the incident added a new dimension to the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran. The attack could further complicate the situation, especially as talks on a permanent peace treaty between the two countries resume.
There was no immediate comment from Iran on the attack. However, it has raised renewed international concerns about military tensions and security in the Persian Gulf region.
