‘Sejjil’ missile, 13 times faster than sound: Iran claims to have attacked Israel

Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Iran has claimed to have launched a high-speed strategic missile attack on Israeli targets. Iran’s elite military force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said that it used an advanced missile known as ‘Sejjil’ in the attack.
On Sunday (March 15), Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that the Sejjil missile was used to attack Israeli targets. It is a solid-fuel ballistic missile, which is known for its rapid deployment and attack capabilities.
According to the report, Tehran used this strategic missile for the first time since the attacks by the United States and Israel on February 28. International media outlet Al Jazeera reported that the range of the Sejjil missile could be around 2,000 to 2,500 kilometers.
According to experts, the speed of this missile is about 13 times faster than sound, which makes it extremely difficult for defense systems to counter it. The military analysis magazine The National Interest reported that the range of the Sejal missile is such that it is capable of hitting targets in a wide area beyond the Middle East—such as the Indian Ocean or the Mediterranean Sea.
It is worth noting that tensions between the two sides have intensified since the attack by the United States and Israel on February 28. It has been claimed that Iran has targeted not only Israel but also US military bases in the Middle East in retaliation. Various reports have stated that several US soldiers have already been killed in the conflict and more than a thousand Iranian citizens have lost their lives.
