Iran may launch a direct attack on the United States, warned FBI

In the context of the ongoing tension between Iran and the United States, the US intelligence agency Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had previously warned that Tehran may attempt to directly attack US territory. A security bulletin said that the possibility of an attack on the United States in retaliation for a military operation against Iran cannot be ruled out.

According to the report, this warning was sent to US law enforcement agencies last month. It was mentioned that Iran may attempt a surprise drone attack on California in retaliation for the US attack. It was also warned that unmanned aerial vehicles from seagoing ships may be used in this possible attack.

This warning was issued by the Los Angeles Joint Regional Intelligence Center, an intelligence platform consisting of multiple agencies. Later, the matter came to light on the 12th day of the war in Iran with a joint military strike by the US and Israel.

However, while talking to reporters on this issue, US President Donald Trump dismissed the possibility of an Iranian-backed attack on the United States. Similarly, Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, said he was not aware of any “immediate threat” to the state.

An unclassified copy of the security bulletin, which was released without a specific date, suggests the warning was issued before the war began. It said that in early February, intelligence indicated that Iran was planning to launch drone strikes from the sea against potential targets in California in retaliation for a U.S. strike on Iran.

The bulletin did not provide details about the timing of the possible attacks, the targets, or the individuals involved. The Federal Bureau of Investigation declined to comment. However, analysts say the escalation of the Middle East conflict could have an impact on U.S. security.
