Trump's post about Bangladeshis, worried expatriates

Amid the ongoing crackdown and strict stance on immigration in the United States, a social media post by US President Donald Trump about Bangladeshis has created new panic. There is now an atmosphere of anxiety and worry, especially in the Jackson Heights area of New York, which is populated by Bangladeshis. Many expatriates fear that surveillance and pressure on them may increase after this post.
On Monday, Trump published a list on his social media platform Truth Social. The list shows a comparative picture of the percentage of immigrants from different countries receiving government benefits. It shows that more than 54 percent of Bangladeshi families, who are in 19th place on the list, are receiving some kind of government assistance. Discussion and concern spread among expatriate Bangladeshis after this information was released.
Trump has long presented immigrants as a 'burden' on the US economy and social system. He has taken a stand in favor of reducing government benefits and imposing stricter immigration policies. His statements and actions have created uncertainty and fear among both legal and illegal immigrants.
Moin Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi lawyer living in the United States, said that those who are legally residing in the country and receiving government benefits based on accurate information need not panic. However, if someone has received government assistance by providing false information or illegally, strict action may be taken against them. He warned that there may even be a risk of cancellation of the green card.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has announced a cut of more than $10 billion in federal assistance to five states, including California and New York. As a result, it is feared that childcare, food assistance, and social service programs in these states may be severely disrupted. As many immigrant families depend on these programs, their worries have increased.
Overall, Trump's post and subsequent policy announcements have created new uncertainty among the Bangladeshi community living in the United States. Many are now re-examining their legal status and access to government benefits to avoid any risks in the future.
