A passenger plane has crashed in Russia's Far East, killing all 49 people on board. Five children and six cabin crew members were among the dead. The crash occurred on Thursday morning (July 24) local time, when the plane was en route to the Chinese border town of Tyunda after taking off from the city of Blagoveshchensk.
Russian state broadcaster RT and international media outlet NDTV reported that the plane lost radar midway and crashed in a remote forest area in the Amur region. A video of the burnt wreckage and smoke engulfing the plane went viral on social media shortly after the crash.
Vasily Orlov, governor of Russia's Amur region, confirmed that no one was alive. During the search, it was found that the plane's fuselage was on fire and was completely destroyed. The cause of the crash was not immediately known, but Russia's civil aviation authority and emergency services have launched an investigation.
Helicopters and rescue teams arrived at the crash site immediately after the incident and began rescue operations. Although the rescue operation was delayed due to the remote location, efforts were made from all sides.
The accident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire world, including Russia. The local administration and the Russian government have expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
