The terrible fire that has spread in the central part of Israel has disrupted public life. The fire has spread rapidly due to intense heat waves and strong winds. Local residents have already been evacuated from several cities. Road and train traffic have been closed. In such a situation, the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting at the emergency command center.
This information was reported by the Turkish news agency Anadolu on Wednesday (April 23) night.
According to the report, the fire started in the Moshav Tarum area. After that, the fire spread to the cities of Beit Shemesh, Eshtaol, Beit Meir and Mesilat Zion. The situation has become so dire that residents were forced to flee, leaving their vehicles on the road.
Police said that important roads leading to the capital have been closed to protect the city of Jerusalem from the fire. People have been ordered to stay away from the affected areas.
Water has already been sprayed by aircraft to control the fire. At least nine people were injured in the incident, including seven firefighters and two civilians.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Authority said that firefighters from six districts are participating in the rescue operation. They have also been joined by members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). About 110 firefighting units, 11 fire planes and a helicopter are engaged in extinguishing the fire.
In addition, the police said that the fire has spread to various parts of Route 1 and Route 6. Search operations are being carried out in the surrounding vulnerable areas.
A video circulating on social media shows many people walking on the highway near Rehovot, surrounded by smoke.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that fires have occurred in Israel due to the dry summer. Such situations have arisen many times before.
