Recently, Israeli and US leaders have expressed extreme anger at Saudi Arabia. US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have threatened to permanently expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu has even offered to relocate Palestinians to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has become furious after their statements.
The country's media is simultaneously criticizing Netanyahu and Trump. The Saudi government has also issued statements in harsh language. In particular, Saudi Arabia's position has become stronger, while its attitude towards the Palestinian armed group Hamas is also changing. Saudi Arabia, for whom Hamas is known as an enemy and a terrorist organization, has softened its tone somewhat.
The Middle East-based media outlet "The New Arab" reported that the Saudi media is now taking a direct stance against Israel, which has never been seen before. The Saudi Foreign Ministry said that Netanyahu's proposal reflects extremist ideology and completely denies the rights of the Palestinians.
Analysts on Al-Ikhbariya TV said that "the word state is no longer valid with Israel," although Saudi Arabia tried to establish diplomatic relations with Israel a few years ago. The media outlet called Netanyahu a "Zionist" and characterized his actions as a manifestation of the occupation.
On the other hand, Al-Arabiya TV questioned Netanyahu's mental health, and speculated that he may have made such a controversial proposal due to mental problems.
In this changed situation, Saudi Arabia's new attitude towards Hamas has caused quite a stir. Some Saudi media outlets have already published statements made by Hamas, which they have never done before. Many experts believe that this could be a new diplomatic turning point for Saudi Arabia, which could open the door to a future relationship with Hamas.
It remains to be seen how much Saudi Arabia's stance will affect the political equation in the Middle East.
