Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor recently commented on the statement of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said that Hasina's recent statement has created complications in many areas and it has become embarrassing for the Congress.
Shashi Tharoor said these things while talking to reporters at the launch of a book at the Foreign Correspondents' Club in New Delhi on Monday, February 10. Regarding Hasina's recent statement, he said, "It has complicated the situation. Hasina's statement has created some dilemma for us."
Shashi Tharoor also said that India should be very careful about the events in Bangladesh, because the situation has become sensitive at present. He highlighted two important criteria for Indian foreign policy: one, there should be no hint of interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh; and two, the welfare of the people of Bangladesh should be given utmost importance.
Responding to questions from Indian journalists, Shashi said, "Bangladesh is next to us, so we have to carefully monitor everything that is happening there. However, I do not think that the interim government in Bangladesh is hostile. Still, caution must be maintained."
