New eye drops: New hope for people with low vision

Scientists have developed a special type of eye drops to eliminate age-related eye problems. By using these drops, people with low vision will be able to read any text without glasses. It will be especially effective in presbyopia or age-related nearsightedness.
The results of the study on these drops were presented by the Center for Advanced Research for Presbyopia in Argentina at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Congress held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The study showed that participants saw an average of 3.45 lines of improvement in their vision on the eye chart test within just one hour of using the drops. The drops showed lasting improvement for up to two years. In the study, 766 people in Argentina used these drops containing pilocarpine and diclofenac twice a day.
Presbyopia usually occurs in people aged 40 and above. When the lens of the eye becomes less flexible, it becomes difficult to focus on nearby objects. Until now, this problem could only be solved by using glasses or surgery. However, it can be easily solved by using the new drops.
Giovanna Benozzi, the director of the study, said that evidence of rapid and sustainable improvement was found in all groups. In particular, 99 percent of patients in the pilocarpine group achieved the expected results. However, some side effects were observed during the use of the drops. Among them, temporary blurred vision, eye irritation and headache are the main ones.
Many people will be able to live a normal life without glasses by using these new eye drops, which has been seen as a new ray of hope for age-related eye problems.
