Bangla QR payment to be mandatory across the country from July 1

Bangla QR is being made mandatory across the country from July 1, 2026, to make digital transactions easy, secure and universal. Through this initiative of Bangladesh Bank, payments can be made through banks and mobile financial services using a single QR code.
Until now, many business establishments had to use QR codes of different banks or mobile financial services. If Bangla QR is introduced, a customer will be able to make payments using the same QR code using any supported bank or mobile wallet. This will make digital transactions easier at all levels - from shopkeepers, small traders, sidewalk vendors to large shopping malls.
Bangladesh Bank said that this initiative has been taken with the aim of reducing dependence on cash, increasing transparency in transactions and moving towards a cashless economy. It is expected that the increase in digital payments will reduce the cost of printing money and financial activities will be faster and more controlled.
Central bank officials believe that the use of Bangla QR will reduce the hassle of managing separate payment channels for traders. At the same time, the payment process for customers will be fast, easy and relatively safe.
However, with the increase in digital transactions, Bangladesh Bank has also emphasized security awareness. Customers have been advised not to share their personal PIN, password or OTP with anyone. They have also been told to be wary of suspicious links, fake calls or fraudulent messages.
Those concerned believe that the introduction of Bangla QR will add a new dimension to the country's financial transactions. It can play an important role in bringing small traders and general customers under the digital payment system.
