Obscenity in the name of cricket, legal notice to 9 stars

The much-discussed Celebrity Cricket Champions Trophy 2025 has recently concluded. However, the tournament has sparked significant controversy, with allegations of vulgarity being raised against several participants. As a result, a legal notice has been issued against 9 individuals, including 6 actresses and 3 directors.
The notice was sent by Advocate Md. Zakir Hossain of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. The accused directors are Probir Roy Chowdhury, Gias Uddin Selim, and Tanim Rahman Anshu. The actresses named in the notice are Maria Mim, Cynthia Yasmin, Keya Payel, Marufa Akter Zaman, Shammi Islam Nila, and Alisha.
According to the notice, cricket is a widely loved sport in Bangladesh. People of all ages, from children to the elderly, watch matches with family. When celebrities are involved, the public interest increases even more. However, in this year’s Celebrity Cricket League, several actresses reportedly appeared in revealing clothing and engaged in suggestive behavior, which allegedly promoted vulgarity under the guise of sports.
One actress, Marufa Akter Zaman, reportedly said in an interview, “If we can’t show off our figure, what’s the point?” This statement has been cited in the notice as clear evidence of intentionally promoting indecency.
The legal notice argues that such displays are harmful to society and tarnish the image of cricket. Given that the majority of Bangladesh’s population is Muslim and holds Islamic values, the notice calls for modest dress codes for all participants in the league. It urges directors to take responsibility by advising actresses to dress appropriately and prevent further dissemination of vulgar content in the name of cricket.
The accused individuals have been given 15 days to respond and explain why they wore indecent clothing and behaved inappropriately during the tournament. Failure to respond may lead to legal action for spreading obscenity in society through the Celebrity Cricket League 2025.
The tournament officially kicked off on May 5 at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka and concluded on May 13. Gigabyte Titans emerged as champions, with notable celebrities like Siam Ahmed, Shariful Raj, Moushumi Hamid, and Mehazabien Chowdhury participating. The five-day T20-format event featured four teams: Gigabyte Titans, Zevico Kings, Night Riders, and Swapnodhara Spartans.
Now, all eyes are on how the accused will respond to the legal notice and whether this glamorous event will face further scrutiny in the courtroom.
