PIO's video goes viral on bribery charges

Babul Chandra Roy, the project implementation officer of Debiganj Upazila in Panchagarh, has been accused of taking bribes in the TR, Kabikha and Kabita projects. The complainants claim that a fixed commission is demanded for approving project files and releasing bills. This has created anger among local public representatives.
Recently, a video recorded in the officer's office went viral on social media. It is alleged that in the video, he is seen talking about money with some project presidents and UP members. Some local UP members claim that signing the file is delayed unless the specified amount is paid for each work allocation.
Some public representatives, who do not wish to be named, complained that even after completing the project work, they are harassed on various pretexts when they go to collect the bill. They claim that the file does not progress unless the money is paid. Therefore, they have demanded the intervention of the administration and a fair investigation into the incident.
However, denying the allegations, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Babul Chandra Roy said that the concerned came to collect the bill without doing any work, which is why the talks took place. On the other hand, Debiganj Upazila Executive Officer Indrajit Saha said that he is aware of the matter and will inform the higher authorities including the Deputy Commissioner. He also assured to investigate locally and take necessary action.
