A court has ordered to send small screen actor Zaher Alvi to jail in a case of abetment to suicide filed in connection with his wife's death. He surrendered to a Dhaka court on Thursday and applied for bail, but it was rejected after the hearing. The court later ordered to send him to jail.
According to court sources, Zaher Alvi appeared in court at noon and applied for bail through his lawyer. Several lawyers presented arguments on his behalf during the hearing. On the other hand, the plaintiff's lawyers appealed to the court opposing the bail. After hearing the arguments of both parties, the court dismissed the bail application.
In the bail application, Zaher Alvi claimed that he was not involved in the allegations in the case and that he had been included in the case for harassment. The application also mentioned that he was staying outside the country at the time of the incident. However, considering these arguments, the court decided to send him to jail without granting him bail.
The body of Zaher Alvi's wife Iqra was recovered from her house in Mirpur, the capital, on March 1. Later, a relative of Iqra filed a case alleging abetment to suicide in the incident. Along with Zaher Alvi, his mother has also been named as an accused in the case. The complaint states that Iqra was forced to commit suicide due to long-standing family disputes and mental torture. The case is currently under investigation.
