Full verdict in Abu Sayeed murder case published, death sentences of two policemen upheld

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has published the full 809-page verdict in the murder case of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed, known as the first martyr of the July Uprising.
In the published verdict, the death sentences of two accused policemen in the case have been upheld. At the same time, some of the accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment and others to various terms of imprisonment.
According to the verdict, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Amir Hossain and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy have been sentenced to death. In addition, three have been sentenced to life imprisonment, five to 10 years, eight to 5 years and 11 to 3 years of imprisonment. In the case of one accused, the time spent in custody has been considered as the term of sentence.
In its observation of the verdict, the tribunal noted that the killing of Abu Sayeed was the first important incident in the series of crimes against humanity committed around the July-August movement. According to the tribunal, this murder can be considered the beginning of the subsequent chain of events.
With the publication of the full verdict in the case, an important chapter in the judicial process of this much-discussed murder has been completed.
