Expatriate's wife arrested for robbery at in-laws' house with the help of an extramarital lover

Police have arrested an expatriate's wife in connection with a planned robbery at her in-laws' house in Raozan, Chittagong. There have also been allegations of torture and looting of the elderly in-laws in this controversial incident.
Police said that Rina Akhter, who was arrested, is the wife of an expatriate from the West Gujra area of Raozan upazila. She has been made the second accused in the case.
Raozan East Gujra Investigation Center officer Dipdas Roy said that she was arrested in a raid on Sunday night. Later, she was sent to jail through the court.
According to the case and local sources, a group of miscreants entered a house late last February and took the family members hostage. There are allegations of beating and intimidating the elderly members of the house during this time. It was also alleged that the miscreants took away gold ornaments, cash and mobile phones.
The family later expressed doubts about some aspects of the incident. At one stage of the investigation, law enforcement agencies investigated different aspects of the incident.
Sources involved in the investigation claim that the accused woman and a man developed a close relationship while her husband was abroad. Later, the investigation found information that they had tried to embezzle valuables by organizing a planned robbery.
Nawab Hossain's name has also emerged as an accused in the incident.
Masud Alam Patwari, an officer of the Chittagong District Detective Police, said that various information and evidence were found during the investigation and an investigation report has been submitted to the court.
