Bus with 50+ Passengers, Including Children, Plunges into Padma River at Daulatdia, Casualties Feared

A passenger bus of 'Souhardya Paribahan' fell into the Padma River in a horrific accident in the Daulatdia Ferry Ghat area of Rajbari. The incident took place at pontoon number 3 around 5:30 pm on Wednesday (March 25). It is learnt that there were more than 50 passengers, including children, in the bus, and many casualties are feared.
According to witnesses, the bus lost control while boarding the ferry and plunged directly into the river. Several passengers managed to swim ashore, but many are feared to have drowned.
Local residents gathered at the scene immediately after the حادثہ and took part in initial rescue efforts. Members of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence and police later arrived and began formal rescue operations.
Dewan Sohel Rana, Deputy Assistant Director of the Rajbari Fire Service, said the bus lost control while getting onto the ferry and fell into the river. Diver teams from Paturia Ferry Ghat and Aricha Ferry Ghat are on their way to assist in the rescue operation.
The exact number of casualties could not be confirmed at the time of reporting. Rescue efforts are ongoing.
