In Ullapara Upazila of Sirajganj, a Union Jubal League leader joined Jamaat-e-Islami and the son of a former Jamaat-e-Islami leader joined BNP, creating widespread discussion in the local political arena.

On Wednesday (February 4) afternoon, Abdul Quddus, President of Udhunia Union Jubal League in Ullapara Upazila, joined the party by participating in an election rally of Jamaat-e-Islami. Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, the nominated candidate of the 11-party alliance in Sirajganj-4 constituency and Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary General, formally welcomed him with a garland of flowers.

Abdul Quddus has also served as the Vice-President of Udhunia Union Awami League. His father, Abdul Jalil, was elected with the support of Awami League and was once the UP Chairman. However, on November 15 last year, Ullapara police arrested Abdul Quddus in a sabotage case. He is also an accused in a case filed in connection with the attack on students of the anti-discrimination movement.

On the other hand, on Thursday (February 5) morning, Zahidul Islam, son of Abdus Samad, who served as the Ameer of Ullapara Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami from 1999 to mid-2021, joined the BNP. At that time, he officially joined the BNP by handing over a bouquet of flowers to BNP-nominated MP candidate M Akbar Ali from Sirajganj-4 (Ullapara) constituency.

In this regard, Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shahjahan Ali said that Jubo League leader Abdul Quddus had been inactive in Awami League politics for a long time. Later, having faith in Jamaat-e-Islami politics, he joined the party to become active again.

Regarding the son of the former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami joining the BNP, he said, "I have heard about it, but I have not spoken to him directly." About 24 years ago, his father served as the Ameer of the Upazila Jamaat.
