Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives of the interim government, Adilur Rahman Khan, said that the people of Bangladesh have been with the July caravan since the beginning and will clearly express that position by voting ‘yes’ in the upcoming referendum. He said that this referendum has been organized with the aim of implementing the spirit of the July Uprising.
Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan spoke to journalists after paying tribute to the July memorial erected at the Gurudayal Government College grounds in Kishoreganj city at 10:30 am on Monday (January 19). He said that those who took a stand against the July Uprising are now trying to spread confusion about the referendum. But the people are aware and they will clearly take a stand in favor of the July caravan.
Regarding the government's role in the referendum, he said that those who are raising questions about the government's campaigning for the referendum are basically fugitive and anti-people's uprising forces. The July Charter was formulated on the initiative of the comrades of those who sacrificed themselves in July-August. He mentioned that the referendum has been organized to implement this charter.
Adilur Rahman Khan further said that the current interim government is a government in favor of the people's uprising. The July Charter was formulated with the participation of the struggling students and the public, and the participation of the students and the public will be ensured in the implementation of this charter in the future as well. He also said that the government is firmly determined to implement the aspirations of the people.
Regarding the political process after the referendum, he said that the people will support them by voting 'yes' on February 12. After that, the path will be smooth for the people to select candidates according to their preferences from the local level and send them to the parliamentary elections.
The advisor said that the people of Bangladesh are very aware and intelligent. They have created history time and again. The official election campaign period is only two days away. He expressed hope that the entire country will stand in one line and unite in support of the referendum, the July Charter, the spirit of the mass uprising and the protection of the rights of the people, he said.
Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Islam Molla, Superintendent of Police Dr. SM Farhad Hossain, District Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Hafez Ikram Hossain, along with July fighters and senior officials of the district administration were present at the time.
