Mahbubur Rahman has come into the discussion even before joining as the new Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Savar Upazila. It is known that he will officially take charge next Sunday. But before taking charge, various controversies and criticisms have started surrounding him on social media.
According to administrative sources, on October 7, the outgoing UNO of Savar, Abu Bakkar Sarkar, was transferred and posted to Chittagong. He will be replaced by Mahbubur Rahman, the Executive Officer of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila.
However, before the new UNO takes charge, various questions have been raised about his political involvement. According to various sources, Mahbubur Rahman is being identified as a close associate of the Awami League. There are allegations that he took various benefits and opportunities while holding administrative responsibilities during the previous Awami League government.
It is also known that he has served as the central joint general secretary of the "Amra Muktijoddhaar Santan" organization and a member of the "Bangabandhu Peshajibi Parishad". Multiple sources even claim that he has close relations with Awami League organizing secretary Ahmed Hossain.
As soon as the issue of his past and involvement with political organizations came to light, there has been widespread discussion and criticism on social media. Many have shared photos of Mahbubur Rahman's past activities and organizations on Facebook, questioning his impartiality.
Many local conscious citizens have expressed concern about this. One citizen said,
"We want a neutral and acceptable UNO to come to Savar. If someone is close to a political party, the impartiality of the administration is questioned."
Another experienced local politician commented,
"If political influence is exerted on administrative positions in an important area like Savar, the trust of the common people will be lost. The administration will have to work for everyone, regardless of party affiliation."
Meanwhile, this controversy, which started before Mahbubur Rahman joined, has given rise to new discussions in the administrative arena. Conscious circles say that such a controversy over the appointment of an administrative officer in an important area like Savar is tarnishing the image of the administration.
However, Mahbubur Rahman's own statement on the matter has not been received yet.
Finally, it can be said that there is now a storm of speculation and criticism going on in Savar surrounding this new UNO, which has come up in discussion before he took charge. Now it is to be seen how he handles this controversy and proves his neutrality after taking charge.
