human chain against press club president against publication of false news

Published: 07:01 30 August 2024
The Muslims of Bashbaria Mosque protested against social defamation by spreading false and baseless news against Barguna's Taltali Press Club President Khairul Islam.
On Friday (August 30) after the Friday prayers, the human chain was held at the Banshbaria Yusuf Munsi Jame Masjid ground of the upazila.
It is known that the President of the Press Club and the Musulli of that Mosque Khairul Islam applied for GR rice allocation for the financial year 2023-24 for the Milad-Mahfil at Banshbaria Yusuf Munsi Jame Mosque in the upazila. Later, 1 ton of rice was allocated for the Milad-Mahfil of the mosque at the end of June. At that time, the president of the mosque committee, Abul Faraji, was informed about the matter. Due to his stay in Dhaka, the release of rice was delayed. Later on August 25, at the request of Abul Faraji, the president of the press club collected rice and handed over his money to the mosque committee in front of the Muslims. However, due to a dispute with the family of the president of the press club over local elections, a kuchkri mahal accused them of embezzling rice and published the news with false and baseless information. In that news, the president claimed that the person who spoke was not the president of the mosque committee. The mosque committee and local Muslims organized this human chain to protest against the defamation by publishing false and baseless news against the president of the press club. Hundreds of Muslims were present in this human chain and expressed their anger for publishing false news.
Local UP member Mujibur Rahman Kakon said in the human chain, "I have heard from the locals that many Muslims, including the president of the mosque committee, know about the matter at the beginning of the rice allocation." The news that has been made here accusing the president of the press club of embezzlement is completely false and intentional. We strongly condemn and protest this.
Zahirul Haq, imam and khatib of the mosque, said, we have already received 1 ton of rice for the Milad Mahfil of the mosque. So how did they spread false news on the allegation of embezzlement?
President of the mosque committee Abul Faraji said, I know from the beginning of the allocation. I asked the president of the press club to lift the rice. That's why he raised rice and gave money to us. He also said that the news was based on false information to distract him due to conflicts with the family of the press club president at various times over elections. The person who spoke as the president is not the president. We strongly condemn and protest this fake news.
