A year and a half of deadlock IU Cafeteria

Published: 04:01 18 November 2024
The central cafeteria of the Islamic University (IU) has been closed for almost one and a half years. After the July uprising, academic and official activities of the university continued, but the place remained locked until now. Students are rushing to outside hotels and dining halls for food.
Students said that better food is available in the cafeteria at a lower price than the campus and nearby hotels. But since it has been closed for a long time, many people are getting sick after eating expensive food from outside hotels and substandard food from hall dining. As a result, our mental and physical development is hindered.
It is known that the manager Ariful Islam closed the cafeteria on March 12, 2023 due to the increase in the price of goods. The cafeteria was officially opened on August 26 of the same year, but it was closed again before the month was over.
Takki Wasif, president of consumer rights youth organization 'Consumer Youth Bangladesh' (CYB), said, "The cafeteria is known as one of the teachers' cultural centers of the university. It is normal for students to gather there, chat, discuss and create many memories at the dining table. But Ebir The cafeteria is seen to be closed for a long time. We sent a memorandum to the proctor on November 10 with a four-point demand to open the cafeteria quickly But no effective action has been taken so far. Maybe the beginning of their university life would be better. In addition to the cafeteria, there should be a healthy and student-friendly action The environment is guaranteed."
Rayhan Biswas, a student of the law department, said, "It is very difficult and frustrating for the students of the university that the cafeteria of the university has been closed for a long time." This is not only hampering the daily food needs of the students, but also disrupting the normal functioning of the campus. But in this regard, the authorities are playing an indifferent role as always. The administration should quickly take effective steps in this regard to bring back the normal environment for the students.
It is known that on October 19, the professor of accounting science and information systems department was appointed as the new director of TSCC of the university. Zakir Hossain. With the new responsibilities, TSCC's auditorium has been made suitable for programs and the cafeteria has been promised to be reopened, but no visible action has been seen yet. The students expressed their anger.
In this regard, the director of TSCC of the university, Professor Dr. Zakir Hossain said, "We have already started work to start the cafeteria of the university quickly. However, since the cafeteria has been closed for a long time, the current condition is bad. A lot of renovations are in progress It will be launched very soon after the renovation work is completed.
